Songoro Marine Transport is a leading Tanzanian company specialied in design, construction and repair of marine vessels and maritime projects in East and Central Africa. Songoro Marine Transport is a limited liability company incorporated in 1993 under the Ordinance Cap 212.
The company was founded by the late Mr. Saleh Songoro in the Mwanza region of Tanzania. Currently the company is led by two directors, Major Songoro (ENG) as Managing Director and Khalid Songoro as Director (ENG).
The initial objective of the company was the transportation of passengers and cargo by boat between then Mwanza Gulf and the villages along the south-eastern part of Lake Victoria in Tanzania, East Africa. In 1998 SMT added another line of business by buying the entire assets of the Pasiansi Boat Yard which was a government owned project dealing with construction and repair of steel vessels.
